Class Size
- All class sections have a limit of ten people or less, generally containing 5-8 people depending on the needs of the individual group.
- If a spot is not available in your preferred section, you may ask to join the wait list. If enough people are on the wait list, it may be possible to open a new section to accommodate.
Dues
- All sessions are paid on a month by month basis. Students may join or leave at any time, with 1 month’s notice.
- The current monthly dues are $300. They are generally due on the first of the month, but a different regular date can be selected if necessary.
- Please keep current and pay dues on time. After 30 days unpaid, students will be barred from attended sessions, and may forfeit their seat.
Payment and Attendance
- Attendance of paid sessions is the student’s responsibility. Make-up sessions may be possible to schedule from time to time, but in general, dues grant the student access to the scheduled sessions in the month they are paid. Dues do not accumulate due to non-attendance or offer any credit toward future sessions (i.e., dues paid in June allow you to attend sessions in June; if you do not attend class in June, and give no notice, those dues do not roll over into July or future classes).
- Please provide 1 month notice if you need to miss a month or drop out for any reason. This is a courtesy to the studio and the instructor. Occasional exceptions for medical or family emergencies are allowed.
How to Pay
- Payments can be made by check, Paypal, Venmo, or cash.
- Payments are due in full monthly, if a payment plan is required, Paypal offers the option to break payments down into smaller increments.
- Receipts for cash or check payments may be furnished upon request.
Cancellation
- We reserve the right to cancel due to weather and personal circumstances beyond our control, or to substitute instructors if necessary.
- While cancellation is very rare, group or one-on-one makeup sessions will be made available for any sessions that are cancelled by the atelier or the instructor.
Culture, Invitation and Acceptance
- People pursue atelier training for a lot of reasons, all of them generally very personal. The atelier is an extremely diverse environment with people of all genders and races, ranging in age from 17 to 80, from many professions and socio economic backgrounds. Every student is allowed the space to explore their own journey at their own pace, and explore whatever issues they need to explore in their own work.
- Training and critiques will focus on effectiveness and skill, not on the merits of the subject or message of any student’s work. The atelier is not a safe space. It is a space of boundary testing, pointed criticism, and personal risk. However, this risk requires a great deal of mutual respect between the instructor and students, as well as among the students themselves. Everyone is equally exposed in their own struggle to improve, and this creates a strong community driven by mutual effort and support.
- All attendance is at the pleasure and invitation of the Studio Master. That invitation may be withdrawn at any time, with or without cause. Any student who is abusive or sexually inappropriate to other students, the model, or the instructor, will be warned, then may forfeit their seat and right to attend future sessions.
